1996 Bronco 5.8 Problem

I have a 1996 Ford Bronco with a 5.8 and it will run for a bit and just stall. I've tried hooking up an ODBI-II tester and it dosen't show any codes. I recently replaced the alternator on the road trip down to where I am. It was experiencing the same type of cutting on and off. I replaced the coil as a few people suggested. It will run for awhile then it will just stall, sometime it will cut on and off while going down the road. Sometimes I could restart it however a few time I was unable to get it to turn over.

Where should I start looking for a soultion becuse I'm kinda lost.

Check your fuel filter, fuel pumps (yes there is 2), your MAF sensor and throttle body.

usually if this stuff is failing or not reading right it causes ur motor to stall out

there will be only 1 fuel pump for that year. Ford stopped using 2 fuel pumps in 89-90.

are you positive you hooked up your code reader properly? you should be getting a code even if everything is ok.

when you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump come on? you should check the fuel pressure at the rail on top of the lower intake manifold. first check with just the key on and then check with the engine running if it will run long enough.

I agree. After the above, check your grounds.
The pigtail off the battery to the fender. Disassemble at the fender and clean the stud up. Be sure stud is not turning in the fender.
Then do the same right by the code reader connection.

Other possibilities...ICM, stator in the distributor or last to fail, PCM. Remember, 10% Ethanol turns into 10% watery mush in a few weeks.

Similar situation happened to me yesterday. Driving in the neighborhood, thank goodness at a slow speed, and engine shut down. Drifted over to the curb, turned key off, wondering what happened. Turned key to "start-up", fired right up and acted as if nothing was wrong. Hasn't duplicted the situation again. Got me stumped?? Going to go by a local garage and see if they can pull up a code. Don't want this to happen out on the 4-lane.

most auto parts stores will pull codes for free. a shop may end up charging you. you can also pull codes yourself , go to Ford Fuel Injection for instructions how.
