1950 f1 rear fenders

Was fender welt used on 50 f1 rear fenders. I'm fixin to install mine, and if it was not factory, I will skip this step. I know it looks good, but do I really need it? Thanks for any response.

Terminology is important. The rubber welding available that has a bead on the exterior joint and a flat surface between the fender and bed was not original. There was a one inch wide canvas webbing along the seams on the front fenders. There may have been the same webbing on the rears - there seems to be variation on this point.

I agree. If you're going for an original look, skip the fancy welting and go with the anti-squeak stuff that doesn't show. It'll cut down on the noise and keep the metal-to-metal contact down, preventing chipping and rust.

I think I am going to use two rows of electricians tape. that should be about 1" and suffice for an anti squeak device. Thanks to all that responded.

Adding the welting is on my list for the rear fenders on my F3.......the fender does not fit tight to the body and there is always a dirt line there especially in rainy weather

I used that rubber welt with the bead on all my trucks, it does look good, sort of gives it a clean finished look.

If you're after something to quiet squeaks, I doubt that electrical tape will be durable enough to provide much relief.
