Hi all

The ABS & sliding car icon are lite up on my dash. I checked and the tone ring (?) (gear tooth ring) was cracked and I took it off.

I can understand the ABS light staying on because of this malfunction but why is the sliding car icon coming on and staying on regardless of speed. Will it be a problem if I put another 600 miles on it before I get it fixed? Will there be any impact on the Advancetrac??

I ask as I have a trip planned and don't know if I'll have the time to get it fixed??

 

All the ABS wheel speed sensors and the ABS system are integral parts to the operation of AdvanceTrac (Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, and Roll Stability Control... I don't know if a 2008 would have had RSC yet).

With a non-functioning wheel speed sensor, ABS and all of those functions listed above are in alarm and are taken out of service. So you are back to a regular braking system, and all traction control and anti-skid actions need to be performed by the driver... like cars used to be years ago. Nothing bad will happen to the car, if the driver or others don't do anything bad to it.

I think that means a significant portion of the population will do something stupid, and crack it up

 

Got it fixed my labour and a donation to Ford for $7.24 for the part
