Good morning Joe, from that last picture I'd say the letters were originally black like you say and weathered off and saving the original colour. Kind of neat when you think about it eh. You could put you name on in the same style lettering, after all you are part of the family now aren't you?

Just sold this to a guy from British Columbia. Still not sure why. I bought it from Minot N. Dakota was owned by a crop dusting service. Door has an airplane at work and says 'Farmers Spraying Service' Minot airport, Bischkemp V. Nordstrom.
I think I never drove it because it was too original and I never wanted to do anything like a 12 volt conversion or one piece wheels or anything modern. It had some rust creeping in here and there and I did'nt want to paint it and lose the patina.......53 F350 with 9' box

Pretty hard to see on the doors. I was parked at a tavern one day and a guy came up and told me the plane was an Aeronca. It has streams of spray coming from the wings. Turns out the new owner is on here as '53F350' Maybe he has a better picture of the doors . Threw in a couple more patina pics.
