tires + wheels

I have the original 15 inch wheels for my 56, I also have a nice set of 235-75-15 tires. Are the tires too wide for the old wheels? Just thinking about safety issues. Also should I have the old wheels painted or powder-coated? Thanks.

You'll get tons of opinions on this. But I think you're probably good to go with those. I had a set of 225/75/15's on some 15 inch rims when I first bought my truck and they were good. The 235 will be a tad bigger, but not that much. What is your bead width? As far as paint vs. powder coat, either will be fine in my opinion. Just make sure your bead isn't very rusted or pitted. Considering you already have the tires, I'd definitely mount them and even drive it to see how they do.

Not sure of the bead width. The wheels still have the old bias ply tires on them.
