The funny thing (to me anyway), is that while I have been a Ford 'guy' for a lot of years, if Ford had asked for a bailout and GM didn't, I'd probably be driving a GMC today.
Based on my experience and observations, the Dodge wasn't an option and I WILL NEVER BUY A JAPANESE TRUCK.
I would still be a Ford loyalist even if GM didn't take the cash and Ford did. Lucky for GM, they have tens of thousands of loyalists that simply don't care how the company stayed alive.
Pretty cool commercial though.

I live within 25 miles of the former Norfolk assembly plant. Ford was in the news a great deal when they were in the process of closing her down.
It seemed to me as though they did right by their employees in terms of paid training, buyouts, placement in other Ford facilities, etc.
Losing a job that pays that kind of money would be traumatic for anyone but I would like to believe that Ford gave them a softer place to land than many other companies would have.

Federal bail outs to me are the biggest slap in the face to 95% of Americans. We as a people understand that if our product, and or service isn't up to par and making money, we end it, and end it before we lose anymore money. Somehow Corporate America feels it's okay to feed off of the government (We the People) and they forgot what doing business is all about. Wouldn't everyone in America produce junk if Uncle Sam had our backs every low point in our lives. Yeah, that was a great ad concept and it needs to be brought back.

I wish that were true sir. GM out sold Ford in September by some 30K units corporate wide and their sales increase from September 2010 was over 20% while Ford steadily increased 9%. Chrysler increased over 25% from a year ago.
Honda, an undeniable leader in quality and innovation suffered a -9% slide in sales from a year earlier.
