Coolant flush as in back flush but completely done to include removing engine drain plugs on drivers side and passenger and then fill it with ELC coolant along with distilled water. Coolant filtration system is also highly recommended after you flush.

As for prepare to bullet proof it nah I don't agree with that. Depends on what your doing to it pulling heavy and working her hard then perhaps but if not just drive it. Could it happen? Yes it can but you don't need to wrap your head around trying to guess when.

Mine is 2005 running 188,000 miles all stock except the few things I mentioned doing above with no EGR delete. Soon though . I also don't have tuner and I drive it pulling my 32' 5er but I don't beat on her. I get into it from time to time though.
Oh ok thanks a lot for the info. My truck seems to be running great as of now, i only tow about a 4000 lb boat & trailer weekly, which the truck probably doesn't feel. Should I just wait until something happens then fix whatever is needed? I do need to pass smog as I have to do a yearly smog in the state of nv.

I can't honestly answer that question no saying when it will happen if it will happen. The few things I mentioned will help prevent catastrophic problems and if you got the cash go ahead and get yourself a tuner/monitor to keep tabs on your Engine coolant temp and engine oil temps. You can run a bluetooth adapter from obd port into smartphone using torque.

If you do run tuner unless it's been bulletproofed I wouldn't recommend any tunes beyond towing or street.

If you got the $ to fully bulletproof and time to allow truck to sit until done then go for it. The sky's the limit when you have deep pockets.

Totally up to you but the simple items can be done now and still keep your truck on the road.

Some 6.0s go 200k without needing major work, many go 100k and need major work. If you fix it right it'll last a long time. About $5-10k depending on how much you have done.

That's why I bought mine already bulletproofed with receipts from a reputable shop. I love these trucks, but didn't want to take any chances.

The FSJs are great rigs. I'm sad I sold mine. I had a 360 and power leather seats out of a Grand Wagoneer in mine. Not as crazy as the Wagoneer with a Caddy 500 in it I saw once though!

As I must have very very bad luck!! You guys we're just telling me about these preventive maintence things that I should do. Well coming back from the lake today my check engine light came on for no reason. Took it to auto zone they said the erg needs to be replaced! I laughed because you guys were just telling me to do the erg delete.

So here I am with a check engine light still on. Truck still seems to work fine, auto zone guy says it doesn't really need to be replaced until I need to pass smog and driving it shouldn't cause any issues, is this true? Should I do erg delete or replace erg? I need to pass smog yearly before registering my truck, what do you guys suggest? Thanks!

Since you get smog checked I'd do an EGR upgrade instead of delete.

BulletProof EGR Cooler, Square, Ford 6.0L, Lifetime Warranty

Correct me if I'm wrong guys on here but auto zone doesn't have the ability to test your EGR. What they can do is determine if your EGR valve/sensor is bad but what you can do is remove it clean it and put it back in. The EGR delete referred to was the part that connects to your exhaust system. Yes it works coincide with the sensor but two different components. My dads truck had that problem and he just replaced EGR valve and engine light went away. I clean mine almost every few weeks as it gets a lot of soot on it.

Nothing to worry about but to totally eliminate this cleaning or changing of it you can delete the EGR all together. Then depending on your year you may need tuner to turn off your check engine light after you delete EGR. However you said smog so I wouldn't delete it either.

Thanks very much, i cleaned it by following that video, was a bit black but didn't seem too terrible. I've drove about 30 miles already and my light is still on. How do I know if this was the issue or not? Is there a way to reset light or make it go away? I was thinking to reset the light and if it comes back on then it's something else. Thanks!

Easiest way is disconnect both batteries for a few minutes. It'll reset the codes.
