Highboy headers

I have a 75 highboy with the 460 engine swap. I have the fenders off and see why this is such a hard fit for headers. The engine is offset to the passenger side to line up with the divorced transfer case. I hope this is a common problem and the experts on this forum can help me out. Does anyone have a part# or know where to look for chassis exit full length header for this engine swap? I only seem to be able to find fender exit headers. I had a friend years ago with this same set-up and remember he had headers that wrapped around the motor mount. Any help would be appreciated.

header stuff.

check into bronco graveyard. why are you opposed to fenderwell exit. the tubes start to get big and take up lots of space. I ran some hooker supercomps in a 2 wheel drive and was a major pain. had to pull engine up around 10 times to get to fit correctly. pull engine stands and modify and reinstall and drop engine in place. tubes was big and tubes rubbed on mount stands. eventually got completed but will not do again. truck ran great but was some serious work. check into broncograve yard and they have some options and L and L has some headers chasis exit if i remember correctly??

I guess I’m afraid of what I don’t know. I have installed headers before on a diffrent rig, but they were an easy fit between the rails. If I go fender exit, which it looks like I’m going to, do I run the pipes down the outside of the frame? Anybody have any pics of this set-up to help me plan this out?

I would encourage you to consider the fenderwell type headers. Exhaust routing is super simple, and they free so much space between the frame rails. It makes removing the tranny, adjusting the clutch, and a bunch of other things easier. On top of that, the fenderwell headers generally have a better(longer) transition coming off the head, which is good for power. Especially on Fords.

Good luck,

Jared

Thanks Deluxe, I appreciate it. That set up you got looks sharp, I think you made my mind up. Seems to have plenty of room. Can I ask you a couple more questions? Do you have any clearance problems with fenders when the engine is under load? And correct me if I’m wrong, but is that power steering box you have installed a 4 bolt? My donor truck was a 77 F250 4X4 with a 4 bolt box. I am about to swap out my power assist for this unit any if you have any last words of advice or some more pictures of your conversion I would be grateful.

Jam21-I don't want to steal your thread but I'm at the same crossroads you are. I want to put fenderwell headers on my 75 highboy but can't find any to bolt up to a FE (360). So if any of you guys know any brand names or companies that offer, let us know. I've seen L&L and some others make em for the 429/460's but what about us FE guys??

I'm surprised no one manufactures them, i would think the demand would be there, after all, the FE was the only V8 offered in the Highboy from '67 thru '76.
