2010 or 2012 and beyond??

First of all, greetings from the Expedition forum. I have a 2003 Expedition 5.4L that I am about ready to give up on. Ready to get back into a pickup so I can actually haul.

My question is this.... I want to pull a travel trailer and I want to make sure I have a decent tow vehicle, which I have my doubts about with the Expedition. Probably not going to go over a GVWR of 7000 lbs. I am about to wear out Ford's build site playing around with the different options. In a perfect world I want a Supercrew with the Ecoboost, HD payload, and Max Tow. However in the world where finances have more meaning a 2010 makes more monetary sense.

Is there a compelling reason to hold off and wait for the 2012 or even 2013, or is the 2010 a capable TV if I can find one with the 5.4L, 3:73 and tow package?

Thanks!!!!

This late I would wait and get a 2012 or 2011 truck depending on the money. The old tech is great but give it a year or two more and you can have the current gen stuff.

Ive had a 10 5.4 and now an 11 ecoboost. Loved the 10, put a loud muufler on it and had a great time. Bought the eco and was sad, no noise, very quiet. Then I towed 10700 lb wells cargo 1000 miles. This thing is awseome. Unbelievable. No lie, it tows better than my 2000 powerstroke. Find a way to get the 11 or 12. The 5.4 has lots of gaps in the power curve. Not one with the eco. Oh yea, we ve had four expeditions as well. Just for reference.

I have an '04 Expy and I love it for it's utilitarian purposes. But, it's a gutless turd compared to my ecoboost. Try to find a way to get a 2011 or newer. The incentives are real strong on the 11's right now.

My 2010 tows fine but the Eco would be a great choice, it has lots of power and better fuel economy than any 5.4. I love my truck, 5.4 and all, but next one will be the Ecoboost. That said, the 2009 or '10 with the 6 speed is very capable. It's far and away better than the 2V 5.4 with the old 4 speed auto.

That right there is probably your best choice for TT towing. That's what I have on order, sterling grey. Add a rearview camera to make hooking up easier.

OK, I;m gonna hold out till next year sometime.

Not that I want a 2011, but I have yet to find a Max Tow, HD Pkg with Ecoboost. I hope a 2012 will be in my future.

The 36 gallon fuel tank available with the Ecoboost on 2012s would be a good reason to wait, but it's a tough call because of the financial side of life.
