When should i upgrade HPOP???

right now i just have the 6637 intake and 3" dp for mods, then i'm adding gauges and i want to do a chip, then stage I's... all that being said, at what point should i do the HPOP? should i just wait for it to go out, or should i get it before it gets me? also, what is a good one to go with?

thanks in advance!

The stock HPOP may serve you just fine with Stage 1's. If not, I would recommend the T-500 from Terminator Engineering. It is a very cost effective upgrade over the stock HPOP and if my stock HPOP ever fails, that's what I will be getting.

Others who have first hand experience with this will chime in soon, but my understanding is that stage 1's will run fine with a healthy stock HPOP.

The stock pump will barely keep up with 1's. It will feed them fine if you drive like a nancy boy but if you get into it you'll set the SES for ICP less than desired.

Don't get in a rush, but start hunting for a spare HPOP and send it to Joey at Terminator Engineering to get made into a T500. It will feed those 1's nicely and the price is very reasonable. If you can deal with having your truck down, just send him the pump you have.

Okay cool, so it's not really a big deal until after the stage 1's, and even then i might as well just run it till it dies. i do like the idea of finding a spare (like a junkyard or something) so i'll probably just do that... any guesses as to what that might cost me? (the spare that is)

Joey has a great pump but you will be fine for a while.

You could even upgrade to a SD pump for cheap if you can find one. That should do you fine. As long as it is a good working truck.

When you need a pump is when your duty cycle goes up alot and the pressure drops off quite a bit. A graph shows it well. Get someone with AE or a scan gauge and take a look at it. You may already need a pump and not know it yet.

His truck is a 94 so he won't be able to just bolt an SD pump on.
Daniel FWIW I'm running stage 1's with Tyrant tunes and a stock 15° pump (haven't got my modded 17° installed yet) and I had to hold it too the floor for quite a while in my extreme tune to trip the SES light. You'll be more limited by EGT's than by HPO.

I've been driving on my Stage 1's all summer like a raped ape and I have yet to throw a CEL. Towing and empty. I have a nice healthy engine (touch wood!) with only 122k miles, but I am still planning on the HPOP upgrade. It's just something worth doing for the piece of mind.

I've seen the SRP1 locally for $500, but I am probably going to just go with a SD pump unless I can find a spare to send to Joey. Reliability is the most important factor for me. Power is 2nd.

ok, yeah i guess i'll just look around for a spare, get that one modded and wait till mine craps out. I really doubt i'll have the $$ for my chip or stage 1's anytime soon (at least until i can find a job out here), so i'll just wait it out and see lol

I was in the extreme tune, foot to the floor for a good 1/4 mile before the light came on. Left one helluva smoke trail too... my tunes are pretty darn smoky.

Yep, it will work just fine, actually probably run a little better with just a hpop upgrade.
