Reading and clearing DTC's from Sync/NAV screen

Apologize ahead of time if people already know this but.....It seems a lot of people do not realize you can read DTC's (Trouble Codes) and clear them from the touch screen Sync/NAV screen.

If you have the truck key in the ON position (motor not running, at least I have not tried with it running) and you hold the 3&6 radio preset keys on the NAV unit in will enter into a maintenance/test mode. Sound will start playing as part of a speaker test, you can bypass this by pressing the cancel test button on the screen. You will now see a whole plethora of menu options on the screen that are not normally available. Its obvious which one is the DTC one. Have fun!

I thought this was for DTC's related to the audio system only?

Dunno, I have not had a code nor did I look at it that way. I just saw the DTC option in there with a clear option. DTC usually refers to OBDII issues but who knows. Can someone who has the NAV and a code test it out?

I just went out and tried it.....Works great. Just scared to touch all the buttons when the screen comes up...My Microphone passed the test though....LOL Now I understand why it was so difficult to get the FORD aftermarket Navigation installed. They are truly Married to the truck itself.

Didn't know that, That was half the reason for me installing the Edge CTS monitor, So I could pull and clear any DTC codes. It saved me several times on my 2006 6.0L where a CEL would not allow the truck to start. Clear the codes and the truck started I was able to drive into the dealer vs being towed.

That is awesome kereams! I'm stuck in Indy until Friday and can't try this. It's pure torture hearing about a cool feature and not be able to try it. Anyone in Indianapolis that I can try your truck? :-)

You are correct; ACM DTC or diagnostic trouble codes; not powertrain, ABS, etc. Audio DTC's

Is there a way to prove the nav screen DTC's are only the electronics/audio side? Is there someone that has the CEL issue with a nav screen that can pull theirs up and cross reference with an OBDII reader?

This feature is a little confusing. Check out the sensor section.

sweet.
I pulled it up and looked around at all the different options.

No DTC's for me so can't try it out but I will be writting this down just incase for future reference.

Any way to have a list of these hidden functions on FTE ??

I know there was another trick posted awhile back for entering into another test screen that showed up on between the tach and speedo. I didn't write it down so not sure how to do it again.

I'm stuck in Switzerland and won't get home until Saturday. I know, I know, poor me.

Not a chance in hell I could locate a '11 6.7 SD over here.

When I had my navigation troubles I found this out. The only DTC that will show there are your audio control problems. You can also enter the engineering test mode on the LCD info screen and retrieve DTC's for the info screen and trailer brakes. Neither one of these screens will show you a DTC for your engine. So, if your CEL is on, the only way to pull the code is with a reader.

How do you do this ???

I did it back when I first read about it and thought it was a neat little hidden function but I didn't write it down and can't find it again.

Thanks !

So how do you see the DTC codes on the LCD screen?
