my '60 ford panel project

Well since the original frame was tossed about 15 years ago,I had to find a new one .I have a '75 parcel van that is my donor. I have to cut a foot off the front of the frame and move every thing back a foot on the front. this is to get my proper w.b. The panel is going to be 3/4 ton 2wd,with a 300 6 auto. The thing I hate most is have to cut the fire wall and box it for the 300 to fit, but it has to be done to get the 300 to sit nice, so my dad says.we'll see.It will be painted gloss green which was the original color. Ready to hear what you'll say about this. Oh ya I'm on a very tight budget, 25 years old, married ,2 girls now one due to pop on halloween.

My idea thanks Dan

p.s. also recent thumb loss

Dan,
Don't cut until you have to. I have a '59 with a 223. I also have a 300. The 300 is about 2" longer than the 223, measuring from the front of the water pump pulley to the back of the cylinder head. There is about 2" between the radiator core and the front of the 223 fan. There is about 2" clearance between the back of the 223 head and the firewall. You should be able to make it fit in that space. You could dimple the firewall if there were any specific interference problems, such as not clearing the intake/exhaust manifold on the passengers side. What you dad probably does not like is that there is a stamped u-channel reinforcement that surrounds the tranny cover hole in the cab. If that's in the way, and hammering it flat doesn't do the trick, then you may have to cut out a small section of it.
Good Luck!
Brett

Thanks brett. I was doing some measuring yesterday ,and it does look like I can sneak it in there. That would make me alot happier if I dont have to cut it out.
Thanks again

Maybe you could do some thing with your motor mounts and move the engine foward on the fram. You could also gane some room by removing the fan and useing a electric fan.

ya I was thinking about moving the mounts, but I want to make sure im fairly balanced over the front axle, so I dont have much nose dive.I was thinking dual electric fans.
Thanks
Dan
