fix up?

i have an 86 f-150, 302. it has about 92000-93000 on it. the body is pretty rough. i figured it would cost me about 2-3 hundred for the body, not including paint. i want to put slit rear dual exhaust on it, with glasspacks, and have it painted to it's once original glossy black. is this worth it? also the floorboards are going, and the cab corners. other than that the truck is fine
HELP ME HELP ME!

fix up?

don't let it die!

fix it up! for a thousand dollars or so you could probably have a brand new (sorta) looking truck. if she's running fine then id keep it. you know what you have and you know nothing is wrong mechanically with it.

of course, it is technically holding a little resale value seeing as it hasnt rolled 100,000 yet, although it is a bit on the older side, plus you might have to replace a number of parts when you get up around 100,000. i still think fixing it up would be cheaper than buying a new truck. ya never know the problems youll get with a newer truck either. my 95 f150 i bought had a crack in the front fuel tank, so after i filled it up the first time i realized that and had to replace the tank.

depends on if its all the truck you need and your happy with it. thats the best i can tell ya!

I agree with chek181.... It sounds like the work you want to do can be done at your own pace with regards to time and money. If it's on the road, and mechanically OK, just do your upgrades/repairs one at a time. It's worth a lot to own something that you already know the history of. Much better than buying someone elses problems..

fix up?

I'm in the "Fix it up" camp:

If you want a whole body, you should be able to find one nearby for cheap - there's an '85 XLT near me that could be had for $300 (maybe less) and it's in pretty good shape. No engine, t'case, interior, or camper shell...
