BW 1356

I know this isn't a diesel topic but I'm asking this up and down the board so I can get lots of opinions. My 88 F350 has burnt up its transfer case, a BW 1356. What other cases will fit and what is the same length so I don't have to cut the drive shaft?

a BW 1356 will fit, the NP405, NP435(dont quote me) i beleive fits. As for the driveshaft part of the question I have no idea. Many people would say switch to the NP or something that is not chain driven like the BW1356 is. I personally disagree with it and trust a chain more than anything else, then again I trust the old Vbelts more than a serpintine belt.

Actually, those are transmissions, not transfer cases.

My 85 has a 208 case behind it. That said you should be able to find a 1356 pretty easily from a recycler as they were used at least until 96.

I have used np208, bw 1356, and bw 1345 in mine with no driveshaft changes. Matter of fact one of my spare t-cases right now is a np208. The only diff has been the shifter linkage so make sure to get that with the t-case.

I don't know if you are up to or not, and depends on the turn around time you need, but the BW 1356 is pretty darn simple to break down and rebuild. But it really shouldn't be hard to find one to swap in.
