Any 5.0 mass air 5spd 4x4?

First some background. I put a C-6 in my 95 f-150 1/2ton 4x4 after the 4R70W puked for the second time. The swap went great. I even got better mileage (the truck only has 3.31 gears anyway) for about two days. Then the motor started run REALLY rich. I put my scanner on it, but couldn't get any codes (only the data stream, which showed a huge injector pulse width). I was always able to get codes before, so I attribute this to all of the tranny sensors which are no longer sending signals to the PCM.

Here is my problem. I went to Ford to get a 5-spd PCM for my truck and they said that FORD NEVER MADE A MASS AIR 5-SPD 4X4 1/2TON IN 1995. I can't believe this is true as I swear I've driven a couple. Also, they also told me that they didn't make a stick w/airbag, which I know is false because I drove a 95 1/2ton 4x4 300 six 5spd w/airbag to the dealership. I even looked through the PCM pinout book myself and they don't list a stick mass air.
My options right now are to convert to speed density(not really an option due to the E303 cam I put in) or to switch to a mass air Mustang computer and change the harness pinouts. I tow a LOT with this truck and I would much rather have the piece of mind that the rebuilt C-6 gives me (unlike the 4R70W).

So someone who has a 5.0L 5spd mass air 4x4, or knows for sure someone who does, please let me know!

Thanks,
46cabover

There are no MAF stick shift 5.0's unless you can find a california emissions version from 95-96 you might be in luck.

Also, if you did convert to speed density, it's really not that bad. You can have a chip burned for the computer and it'll compinsate for any mods you make. If the cam is all you're going to do, then burn one, but if you're going to do some head or intake work, wait and get the chip burned for those too. The S/D will run with that cam it just won't be as efficient as it should be.

First, why do you need a 5 speed computer anyway?

Ford MotorSports sells a kit that may work for you due to the C6 trans. Their MAF kits are for 5 speed trucks and for AOD ones.

I don't know who was doing your rebuilds but if they can't rebuild that trans for abuse, they don't need to be building transmissions. A 4R70 is a better trans than you think. It is an electronic AOD with all the crap worked out. Has a lower 1st and 2nd gears, bigger OD drum, etc. I have seen many 5.0 Mustang people gut the 4R70W's as they have stronger internals.

You probably need a bigger trans cooler and some good quality clutches and OD band. Level 10 has good stuff. Now your gas milage will suffer greatly due to the lack of OD.

you maybe have missed the point. This guys truck is already mass air. He doesn't need a conversion. There also has never been a MAF computer that was put into 5 speed truck in any year or any state that is EEC-VI. The only computer ford has for that is the A9L and a few others from different year 5 speed mustangs.

To solve your problem that is a couple ways of going about it. First, you can have someone burn a chip for your existing MAF computer to get rid of the transmition program. Although I don't understand why the tranny programs would make the engine run rich, I would think it would just trigger a check engine light. Anywya, I have heard this is possible and probably the way I would go. The second option is to use a mustang 5 speed computer, such as the A9L. My guess is you can get this done for around $200.

First of all the 4R70W is a better trans when built Correctly (Key word). It is your truck run what ever you want.
As for chip, for get it, it would be cheaper and a whole lot easier if buy a computer out of a 89-93 5.0L mustang, 5-speed or AOD, DOES NOT MATTER!!!!!! I think it will just plug right in, not sure. But I can check around.
Any questions you can PM me.

Uh no, 5 speed and AOD Mustang computers are different.

You CAN NOT use a 5 speed one in an AOD, but you CAN use an AOD one with a 5 speed. It is weird like that. I have first hand knowledge regarding this as I ordered a 5 speed MAF computer by accident for a car I built that had an AOD. It ran terrible like that. Sent it back, got the AOD computer and ran fine.

I've been racing and driving mustangs since I was 16, almost 10 yrs later, still in it.
SO, YES YOU can use a 5-Speed in an AOD, and an AOD in a 5-Speed. I have 86 Gt,with an AOD, yes it's SD, the computer went bad, I pulled the computer out of an other 86 GT with a 5-speed that I have, plugged it in, runs great, even alittle fast.
And a friend of mine just built a 94 Ranger 4x4 extended cab, with a 5.0L and just what with an AOD. He is using the Ford Motorsports 5- speed computer, mass air and injector combo, that you can order.

46cabover, you stated that the swap went great, how long after the swap did you start to have problems?????
You also stated that you are not able to pull codes any longer, Sounds like you have a BAD computer. My 86 GT did the same thing when the computer went south. The first hint was unable to pull codes. Also ran rough, hardly run, acted lean or to rich.
On your 95 do still have the cap and rotor, and do you know if you have the OBDII (ECC V) system or OBD I (ECC IV)
Thanks Chad.

Update, there is a problem, the F150s are a none H.O. Motors.
The firing orders will be different. The H.O. motors are 13726548.
You might want to use a computer out of a Lincoln.
As for Aod and 5-speeds, they have different fuel and timing curves.

I have a 96 4X4, 302, 5-speed. I believe it has mass air.
How would I know for sure? If it does indeed have it, could he not use one from the 96?
