Are the license and tabs current? Do you have a cop friend that could run the plate? Completely possible it's abandoned if they pulled the plates when leaving it. It's definitely worth leaving a note on it, or asking a few of the businesses across the street about it. Remember, he who dies with the most toys wins.
Considering it came to you and you didn't have to go hunting for it I'd try snag it! So many things you could do with it...
I'd personally use it for family trips etc. like you suggested, just tidy it up, maybe a vintage-styled logo on the side and some basic camping stuff in the back. Would be sweet!
Didn't these vans have specialty wheels? I think some came with one piece 17" wheels which are rare and highly desired by F-3 guys.
They wouldn't be 17s, but could I guess be the ultra rare 19.5" singles like were used on the '59/'60 F-250 4x4s. I don't think there ever were any one piece 17s.
You should be glad this thing isn't purple. Old timers will remember the guy that had one of these and intended to travel the country "visiting" other members. More like sponging until he'd worn out his welcome. Peace and love, man! Stu
I started feeding a stray cat a few years ago and now I guess the word has gotten out...every stray in the neighborhood shows up at my door. Maybe this "stray" knows a soft touch when it sees one...take it in and show it some love. Good karma!
Ford carried that manure grill up until almost the '60s on their bread van trucks. Are you sure it's a F-1 sized truck? Most I've seen were based on the F-2/F-3 platform. They were designated as P series I think.
According to Ford's chassis parts catalog from 1955, the 51-52's used that grille, 53-54 used the 53 style (unique width), and the 55 style grille was used pretty much forever after that.
The early Parcel Delivery's were available on F-3 or F-5 chassis. 53 and later were known as P-350 or P-500.
I get home last night and this bread truck looking thing is almost in my driveway. When I went to leave this morning it was still their then I noticed it is an early F1 version and looked to be in decent body shape. So what is it and how common are they, I can't recall ever seeing one like this before. I was hoping my wife had bought it for me and I was thinking mini motor home but I asked and she laughed!
