Need some insight....93 door locks (no key)

Hey again guys......

As I mentioned before, I just picked up a 93 F-150 and didnt get a door lock key with her. I had to swap out the ignition as well, which was already replaced by PO with a BWD unit from Advanced....I bought the same type again and must say they work well.

Anywho, I cant lock the truck because I dont have that darn door key. Was curious on how much of a PITA it is to swap out door locks (cylinder portion)? Anybody got a write up in how to do it by chance?

Any other option than pulling the stock locks....can a locksmith make a key? If so, what you figure cost is?

Thanks again guys.....................

Cheapest way out is to change the cylinder in the doors, and it's a pretty easy job.

They are very simple to change.

1. Remove door panel
2. There is a clip on the side of the door that slides out(its in the door jamb on the door side)
3. Remove the door lock actuator rod
4. remove the cylinder from the door

Just reverse the steps 1-4 to install the new ones

Well I am in the process of doing this job.....but can not figure out how to remove the door lock actuator rod. Am I supposed to be ble to wiggle the rod connection outside the door, or does the task need to be completed inside the door void itself? Its in there tight as hell and really trying not to break the plastic retainer piece.

Part doesnt come into store until this afternoon, so I am taking my time and taking pictures so I can throw up a thread.

Thanks

Curt

My local locksmith said he could make a key off the door lock cylinder for $25, when I was having issues a year or two ago.

IF you are careful, you can remove/swap out the cylinder without pulling the panel. Remove the retaining clip, wiggle the cylinder out with the rod, slide the rod out of the clip on the back of the cylinder, reverse to install.
