Mine sat 8 years as well, and while a carb rebuild is in my future, I did manage to get it to start with fresh gas. I did similar to what Moe suggested (wd40 fog and a few teaspoons of oil). I had to toss all the gas and drain everything I could (E10, not 100% gasoline). If your's has E10 in it then it is toast guaranteed, if it was 100% gas then drain a little out and take it outside and see if it will even burn, my guess if no sta-bil was added and no special precautions taken to store it probably rancid.
After the hand crank but before start I also turned it over several times with the key off (no power to coil) - to get oil flowing through everything, and to prime the fuel system. Don't fry your starter - 10 sec cycles max, with 20 seconds to cool down between cycles.
Oh and take pix / movies - we all love the truck **** here

Those old engines are tuff, when I first bought mine, it had sat for 8 or 9 years, brought it home, added some fresh gas, and it cranked right up. smoked like you know what, but it ran. I actually drove it around the block. it smoked so bad you would thought I was fogging for mesquito's. turned out it had about 2 quarts of oil in the muffler. Got to love those Y Blocks. anyway, I now have a 351 W sitting between the rails, no more smoke.
