2000 F-53 motor home chassis

Im hoping someone can help me. I have a 2000 F-53 chassis with 6.8 V10 motor. Started the other day and was running rough. Check engine light came on. No power to pull out of driveway on slight incline. pulled codes and it said pack B, C, D, E were misfiring. i jumped the gun and replaced and didnt fix the problem. I have no spark on the entire right bank of plugs (pass side) I ran continuity test and power test to the packs and pins and they seem ok. thinking probably the PCM is bad. I did see some mouse droppings around the engine cover but found no wires chewed at all! i really checked all wires and was hoping to find something. Question, would the PCM have a chip that covers one whole side of the engine that could have gone bad or am i missing something. Big thanks to anyone who can shed some light Roger

I moved your post to the v10 forum.

Yes, I do believe the PCM has a separate circuit for each bank. The good news is, that I think it has a single ground going TO the PCM for each bank. The PCM grounds the coils to fire them, and it might use a separate ground for each bank. Keep looking for mouse teeth-marks

And it sounds like you already checked for +12V at the red wire at the coils with the key on?

could a bad cam position sensor cause this problem, or crank sensor?

Doubt it - there is one thing that can cause one bank not to fire, and that's when the PCM thinks the engine is too hot. But I think it switches banks to keep it cool.

do you happen to know which pin positions on the 104 harness plug are for the ground wires to the body or frame, or where i might find them. i have the numbers for the numbers to the coil packs, prob should check all grounds before ordering a computer
thanks Roger

You might want to check your local library and see if they have any books with the EVTM (schematics). I might be able to help with a 2001 PCM pinout, but I have to wait until I'm home over the weekend to look it up.

Each bank on the V10 has a common battery power feed, but each COP has a separate low side connection back to the PCM so the PCM can fire each coil in sequence. There is no single ground for each bank shown on the schematics.

Nope, not a cam sensor.

If you do have B+ on the COPS but no ignition pulse from the PCM (Verify BOTH!), I'd suspect an internal PCM failure.

If doing your own trouble shooting of the vacuum and/or electrical systems I'd suggest an EVTM from Ford---not sure if the F-Series or E-Series would be closest to your chassis though.

I find these all the time in great condition typically for $20 or less on eBay------I don't leave home or open the hood without one these days!

My 2001 "truck" service manual CD contains the EVTMs for the F-series, F-53 chassis cab, E-series, you name it.

turns out, i had the info with me on another sheet obtained from Ford. Im showing PCM with 7 grounds (pin 51,3,23,24,76,77,103) going to G103. pin 25 to G200 and 33 going to G204. I checked continuity on all pins and they were grounded well! Im in the auto glass business, and know just enough about this to cost me a small fortune. I think im convinced it is the PCM. Now just where to find one since Ford made it obsolete! We were supposed to use the MH last weekend, couldn't fix, so ended up in a tent. wanting to use next weekend so looking for new or quick repair shop. cant find anyone in St. Louis area who repairs PCM's any suggestions? Thank you again for all the great advice. Roger

Call NAPA - or any other local parts store.

Or, check car-parts.com - I found a PCM for my '97 Cougar that way - and it was right in my town.

I would check the PCM in the truck for numbers, and see if you can find one that way.

That has to be one very handy CD---can I ask where you got yours?
