Steering box on 75 F250

Hi all, I know this thread has been beat into the ground but here is my question. Instead of using a steering gear box from a 78/79 truck, is it possible to use the box from a 80-96 F150? I was looking at these boxes and could see 4 ports? Am I thinking correctly that maybe I can have the best of both worlds with power assist and integral steering?

Any help would be great. Feel free to bash on my ignorance because I'm just not sure if this would work or not.

I have replaced everything on my power assist setup except for the bendix control valve and it is still like manual steering. I'm running 40's and it is nearly impossible to steer. I know I need a new bendix control valve, but now am wishing I would've taken the plunge and done the integral conversion. If the 80-96 gear would work, everything I've replaced would not be all for nothing.

Well thanks, let's see what you've got.

I don't believe the two steering systems could operate in tandem with one another, they're two completely different systems, it sounds as though you're already into the power assist setup about 90% of the way, so why not just replace your control valve and have a completely new system, a malfunctioning control valve will basically leave you with a manual steering setup, a working power assist setup should turn 40's with ease, you can rebuild your control valve for around $100 or buy a rebuilt one for around $225, here's some great info on this system... http://www.stangerssite.com/steeringsysteminfo.html

I ran 40's for awhile with power assist and it always worked ok just not sitting still. I think if you finish your system it will work good enough. Its still better than manual steering.

Well, with lots of research I decided to go with a box from a 78/79 f250, but I'm going to drill and tap the box to operate my power assist cylinder. Everything I've seen says this is a great upgrade. the integral box is a good upgrade, and adding the assist ports will make it a great upgrade, hopefully. If I ever decide to put on the 46's I should have no problem turning them. thanks for the input guys.
