1979 F150 NP205 Mounting
First off, thanks in advance to anyone who contributes to this thread.
As the title states, I own a '79 F150 and am trying to find some pictures of how a 205 is mounted in a 79 F150.
I bought my truck from a friend who had partially installed an 203 and 351M out of a 78 Bronco, however the 203 ended up needing an overhaul so I decided to go with a 205.
The major obstacle for the moment is that the truck has a C6 with a short tail shaft, however it appears that I need the long output shaft in order to use the brackets that I sourced:
I also sourced a short 5-3/4" adapter for a 205:
It will not work with the cross member bracket and rubber mount in the first pic; here you can see the minimal clearance I have at the cross member:
If I try to mount the adapter on the rubber mount and cross member bracket, the adapter sits too high and will not bolt to the C6
Do all 79 F150's with a part time case use the cross member bracket and rubber mount that I posted? If they do, are they only compatible with the longer output shaft and tail housing? It does not look as if I can get the short adapter to work with my current setup.
I am tired of throwing parts at this vehicle and attempting to make something work. I would like to mount the transfer case the way it came from the factory.
Any help is greatly appreciated with this matter.

Sorry, but I don't understand why the parts you have won't work. Here's a picture of the stuff in my truck.
I can't get a better picture because the truck is sold, but what you have looks like the stuff I used, and as far as I know, they are all the same. Maybe you have the mount in backwards? I had a couple mounts out of different parts trucks and they were all the same, so it should work. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pic! It does help! In the pic I posted, the TC adapter does not extend past the x-member like it does in your pic. If I were to install the case it would be partially sitting ON the cross member. It does look like you have the C6 with the longer output shaft and tail housing.
Does anyone have a pic of where the cross member mount attaches to the C6 tail housing?

Your truck with a 203 had a short tail 4x4 C6 from the factory. Now you want the 205 so you will need a long tail 4x4 C6. Rear drive shaft lengths are different between the two setups. Shifter and linkage are different. There is a strap for the mount that goes under the trans mount that is missing in your picture. There are only 2 adapters for either transfer case, a long or a short. The crossmember and mounts are the same between 203 and 205 setups.

Thanks for posting Mark!
Is there a reason that these brackets:
would not work with this adapter:
When I bolted them all together, the adapter sat well above the C6. The adapter does have a D7 casting date, but that should not make a difference.
I will be looking for a long tail 4x4 C6 now.

It must be my kids... I told them they are not supposed to be driving my truck, but you just can't reason with 9 and 12 year olds...
