I'm gonna post stuff here I've run across, wandering the Net. Stuff that caught my attention for one reason or another, I'd like to share. Feel free to comment/ discuss. No method to the madness as to what & when I post to it.

Giant crocodile captured alive in Philippines
About 100 people had to pull the 21 Ft. crocodile, which weighs about 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms), from the creek to a clearing where a crane lifted it into a truck. It had most recently consumed a water buffalo & a local fisherman is still MIA since July.

Back in the day, a comedian named Bill Dana had a character named "Jose Jimenez". In one of his skits as "Jose Jemenez. First man in space":

Jose Jimenez: "My name — Jose Jimenez."
Ed Sullivan: "Well, now I see you have some of your space equipment with you. Uh, what is that called, the crash helmet?"
Jose Jimenez: "Oh, I hope not."
Ed Sullivan: "Now, what do you consider the most important thing in rocket travel?"
Jose Jimenez: "To me the most important thing in the rocket travel is the blast-off."
Ed Sullivan: "The blast-off."
Jose Jimenez: "I always take a blast before I take off. Otherwise I wouldn't go near that thing."

True story: Adopted by the original seven Mercury astronauts, Dana became part of U.S space history on May 5, 1961 when the first words from planet Earth spoken to Alan Shepard (America's first man in space) were "O.K. José, you're on your way!"

Google Power: Consumes More Than Salt Lake City
Every time a person runs a Google search, watches a YouTube video or sends a message through Gmail, the company’s data centers full of computers use electricity. Those data centers around the world continuously draw almost 260 million watts — about a quarter of the output of a nuclear power plant.

Marty Robins: El Paso - YouTube

So I dusted off some Marty Robbin's & while listening, I decided to google him. For the younger folks here, Marty's stuff is like old western novels, set to music. Probably some of the first music I can remember hearing. My Grandfather had every Zane Gray book ever written, & I ran around w/ my Roy Roger's six shooters & a 10 gallon hat minus a few quarts. Some folks say I'm still running a few quarts short...but that's another story.

In addition to his music recordings and performances, Robbins was an avid race car driver, competing in 35 career NASCAR races with six top 10 finishes, including the 1973 Daytona 500. In 1967, Robbins played himself in the car racing film "Hell on Wheels".

Robbins was partial to Dodges, and owned and raced Chargers and then a 1978 Dodge Magnum. His last race was in a Junior Johnson-built 1982 Buick Regal in the Atlanta Journal 500 on November 7, 1982, the month before he died. In 1983, NASCAR honored Robbins by naming the annual race at Nashville the Marty Robbins 420. He was also the driver of the 60th Indianapolis 500 Buick Century pace car in 1976.

He ran many of the big super speedway races including Talladega Superspeedway in 1972, when he stunned the competition by turning laps that were 15 mph faster than his qualifying time. Apparently, in his motel room, Robbins had knocked the NASCAR-mandated restrictors out of his carburetor. After the race, NASCAR tried to give him the Rookie of the Race award, but Robbins would not accept it, admitting he was illegal because he "just wanted to see what it was like to run up front for once."

Reno Air show Crash

At least three people are dead and more than 50 people were injured after a World War II era fighter plane plunged into the spectators at an air show in Reno, Nevada.

Officials at the National Championship Air Race said a mechanical failure may have caused the plane P-51 Mustang "Galloping Ghost" piloted by Jimmy Leeward, to plummet out of the sky Friday afternoon and crash into the viewer grandstands.

Are Airshows worth the risk?
I would still have to say, "Yes!" Better chance surviving an air show, than the freeway drive to & from it.
