1977 F-100 Possible purchase advice.

Hello Everyone,

I am possibly buying a 1977 F-100 but was wondering what issues should I look out for? I have never owned a Ford Truck especially not one this old, but like all things, there is always a first time right?

I really like what I see in pictures, so I will take a look at it tomorrow at it, hopefully to purchase. Is there anything I should be concerned about or maybe some issue that these older models are prone to?

It has a bumper guard in front, running boards, long-bed, dually running lights on top of cab (but it's just for looks, kind of neat though) tool box. Clean interior and good tires. NO RUST (bonus!).

300 C.I. straight 6 with "3 on the tree" tranny (gotta learn to drive that) and was really wondering, how big the gas tanks are too please if anyone has one of these. Not a 4x4.

Other than the obvious things you'd look for on any vehicle these rigs aren't much different, you said it's rust free but rust is the primary issue with these trucks, they tend to rust out in specific areas e.g. front cab mounts, floor pans, rear fender lips, rear bed corners, etc., personally i don't mind mechanical work but i hate body work, but it sounds like a decent truck you're gonna look at, keep us posted.

Gas tank should be 16 gallons. Properly tuned it'll get 14-16 mpg if you drive easily.

If there is really no rust, look at all the soft rubber parts in the doors and windows, most will need replacing.

How many miles on the motor and transmission?
