Temperature Sensor Replacement Help

Need to replace the temperature sensor for dash guage (1990 5.8L) Located old sensor and removed wire connector but for the life of me I am not sure how to remove plastic fitting on top of sensor that wire connector snaps into without destroying it???? Looks like that need to come off before I can remove sensor unit from manifold. Any tips? Or do I need to bust it off and get new fitting for sensor unit too?

Thanks for the help!!!

I'll bet you're messing with the wrong sensor for starters. The one for the dash gauge is in front of #5 injector on the drivers side lower intake, and it has a single wire pushed on over a stud that sticks out the top of the sensor.

Remove the twin air intake hoses and you shouldn't have any problems accessing it.

I just looked for it again and the only other sensor I could see was right behind the distributor cap with the same plastic clip and two wires leading to it. Looks exactly like the one I was originally messing with just in a different spot. Am I still looking in wrong area??

Thanks !!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, that is the IAT sensor. You have gone to far back on the manifold. As Conaski pointed out, it is located right in front of the #5 injector, with a single wire attatched to it.

I've included a pic from my 5.0L manifold. if you look ot the left of the image you can see where stud for the temp sender is sticking out near the thermostat housing. Hope this helps.
