Your 1999 truck has oxygen sensors after the cats, any OBDII truck has this setup. So 1995 and older do not have an oxygen sensor after the cats and I wouldn't think a CEL would come on if the cats were deleted on those trucks.

SEARCH.

Yes cats quiet down the exhaust.

No it wont hurt the engine. No you wont get a CEL. No downstream 02 sensor.

You will need the cats if you live in a state with emissions testing. Why it helps for people to post their location.

Jaime74656 : Your truck had cats from the factory. Someone before you removed them.

Do you mean two tubes going to the front cat? Those pump fresh air into the cat to raise its temperature so the oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide occurs more easily (endothermic reactions require energy to proceed).

I could be wrong here, but don't most people leave the AIR pump system in place and when removing cats just let the air tubes dump the air outside the exhaust?

Yes, please use the search feature, also please tell us what state your in OP, that will help us help you in the long run (i think)

as for my piece, I have no way to know if they had been there or not, im the trucks third (i think?) or at least second owner so if they were there at one time they were taken off well before I got it because the PO of my unit I know had 4.10 gears installed in it as the owners guide has a lot of scribble in it of different things done to it...before I got it that is

@going bording: generally yes as a rule of thumb, its just simpler and easy to do that verses fighting to get all that junk removed, however some have (IIRC) removed that junk...

....You really need to add some more info about your truck when you post , like what motor you have , removing the cats won't hurt anything , but if its a 302-351 you really need to remove the whole exhaust system including the manifolds and replace it with a good custom exhaust if you want it to run better...or do you just want to make a bunch of noise....Lew

dylanellis,
You can remove your cats without any harm to the engine. Keep the O2 sensors and do not delete the air pump tubes from your setup. Keep the air pump hooked up, otherwise the sound from the air pump will be similar to what it sounds like when my grand son gives me "the raspberry".

Also, you can sell the removed cats at the local recycler for about $40 each.

I'm sure noise is high on the OP list of things to do... But, burn outs are MOST important!!!
