I made a custom Ram Air intake for my dent! (pixs inside)
So the other day I was surfing the web for how to make a cold air intake for one of theses trucks and I came up on a mustang forum where the used the flexable coragated dry tubing you know the stuff that they use to direct the air outside. So yesterday I went to my local hardware store to get some I get in the isle and look at the stuff and I thought to myself "Self this doesn't look like it would work very well because 1 its coragated so its gonna have alot of turbulance so the air will be crashing into each other. 2 Its flimsy so when air is getting shoved in there its gonna go all over the place and probably tear ease."
So at this point I was pretty bummed that I just wasted that trip for nothing... But! as soon as I turned around a ray of sunshine shined down from above on something better! It came in the form of 1.2ft sections of 3" adjustable HVAC metal ducting. Each piece has 4 joints on it so you can turn it from a completely straight angle to a full 90 degrees! As I was looking at it I was like man this would work great because its metal and smooth so the air would zoom right through it. Also the fact its metal and adjustable its solid and will look nice. I'm getting ready to take mine off to paint it.
So heres what I did. I got 3 of the 3" adjustable ductings and 3 pipe clamps. When I got home I popped the hood and pulled off my air cleaner and looked at how I was going to route it.
The first piece you need to make a 90 degree angle with it. Then I drilled to holes in it. One on top and one on the right side. Theses holes are to put zip ties through to attach it to your ratatior support.
Now if you go look at your radatior support you will see on the passanger side of the radiator near the bottom there will be a 3 holes together there.
Take the 90 degree piece and zip tie it on there.
Now take the second piece and have it do a 45 degree towards the air cleaner.
The third piece is a little tricky. You need to form it to the shape of the end of the air cleaner.
Then stick it inside the snorkle. After you do that connect it with the second piece as mentioned. Spend a couple minutes fiddling around with it to get it just right the put the pipe clamps on and tighten it down. Guess what! You know have a Ram Air on your truck!
Now the results so after I finshed this yesterday I went for a drive as soon as I got on it it was an instant result! You will fill more pull and also my truck was a little louder. Even though its already straight piped . The nice thing about it is the faster you go the more air it rams in! So as a second test I went down to my local drag strip today and let her loose. I ended up running 3 tenths of a second faster than my fastest time ever in the truck. So if my math is correct thats about a 20 to 25 horse gain!
Now the awesome part! You wanna know how much I ended up spending? $16.63! That was for 3 3"ductings 3.59 each and 3 pipe clamps 1.59 each plus tax! Now thats what I call a good buy right there! After this I will post up my pictures A.S.A.P! Figured I would share a little secret with all my Ford buddies!

I don't mean to come across like a jerk but I really hope no one else does this to their truck. There are so many better ways to get a little more out of your rig than this.
If you really want to improve your air flow your could put this on: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqMOKnI...(zPhSQ~~_3.JPG
