Skipping 3rd

Hey guys. I have a 1992 Ford f150, RWD, with the 5.0L 302. i noticed that when i accelerate quickly, the transmission will shift from 2nd, into 4th, only grabbing 3rd for about 1/4 of a second, as if it is skipping. this only happens when i accelerate rapidly. when i accelerate slowly, it works perfectly. The truck only has 85,XXX so i find it strange that i start having a transmission issue such as this. is it possible that it is just the way the truck is geared? The next thing i am going to have done is flush the transmission fluid and replace the filter.

Any help appreciated!
thanks in advance!
