A couple of problems with the v10

Well I got one of the noises fixed on my truck, which was the catalytic converter cover or heat shield...whatever that is. Now I got another issue, the metal shield/guard right across from the oil pan on the transmission/torque converter..right at 1500 rpms it usually makes a metal noise sounding like vibration of some sort. but i tightened it up and all was well.

Now it has escalated to when i get to the point of 1500 rpms tryin to pull my truck over the curb to get in my drive way it sounds like metal is rotating or something of that nature and even when i get over the curb and rpms go back down to idle it makes the noise until i shut it off and turn it back on..im stumped..lol

So any help would be much appreciated! Also, Do i need to take the dash off to take out my 4x4 switch to test to see if its getting or sending power? I don't wanna pry on it outside the dash if its not meant to go that way lol.

My truck is a 2002 2v v10. Thanks again!

My truck has the same noise at the same rpm first owner had it fixed by dealer 4 times 131000 miles an two owners later still there.
All heat shields were replaced I believe my noise is in the catalytic converter

Sounds like the torque converter inspection plate! To verify that's the problem...remove it and see if the problem goes away.

The dash trim has 2 screws above the gauges (I think) and the rest pulls off by hand. Your 4X4 switch should come off the back side.

It was the little thin aluminum plate! Stupid, what is the point of it? I have it off right now because I can't stand the noise might try to rig something up of a cover for it. Thanks for the help.

It keeps dust, larger dirt pieces, stones, salt and etc out of the bellhousing. The plate should be kept on it. I made a new one out of 1/8" alum for my dads truck, my truck hasn't given me problems yet. You can always install the old cover back on just put some silicone sealant around the edges of the plate to kill the rattling. Or just make a new one out of thicker sheetmetal, something around .090" thick or so will fit better than 1/8".

I added a cork gasket between the plate and housing. It seemed to take care of the rattle.
