Steering Box?

I own a 93 F-150,and at idle parked steering wheel has some play
but, when you move steering left and right within the play range
(so to speak) it has a creaking sound, so I went to the steering box
and rotated the steering shaft within its paly range, and I could hear the creaking sound coming the the box, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what did you do to correct it. Should I adjust the box and will it remove the play or should I rebuilt
the box or just replace it? any info would help...Thanks

Replace it with a reman - the adjustment is too delicate, and if it needs it now, it'll just need some more later. When you change it, put a filter on the return (low-pressure) line - your pump may be going out, too, and you don't want to have to replace the box AGAIN.
