Odd grinding noise

I had a similar noise. It was the down pipe rubbing on the firewall (sounded like the transmission). Check your down pipe clearance at the firewall. Climb under the rig, and with someone you trust behind the wheel have them put the truck in gear (forward and reverse) with their foot on the brake and throttle up to see if the motor torque is forcing the down pipe against the firewall.

@ howard1, no offense taken. chime in anytime pal. we're all here to look out for one another. i could be wrong too. there's stuff tat happens tat could mean a bunch of other things. i'm glad we're all contributing in a positive way.... as long as we're not off-topic, we're good. lol.
guys, speculated situations tat y'all listed are possibilities. here's something to add: if he's never messed wif tat area, then i don't think it may be the "problem" areas. jus thinking aloud. i lost my inner voice.
