Thanks, BuckHammer and the rest who helped me

Just want to thank you all for the great info, and especially for responding so fast. I posted a Help! message 'cause my truck broke and I had to get out of Hurricane Irene's way. Yeah guys, was the vacuum pump. With your diagnosis and step by step instructions, I had it done in no time. I'd have posted a thanks sooner but I just got power back this morning. Again, Thanks BuckHammer,Stainless Stroker95 ,Fordpride. Talyn, DIY Mechanic, Action 4478 and Madpogue. Regards, Vinny

Yeah, we got out in time, Thanks. We{long Island) were lucky. Irene sort of spared us the big blow that was expected. As far as vacuum pumps go. Its a bit scary to me that my 8800 lb truck depends on this thing to stop. Is there anything that can be installed as a fail safe?.......besides a big anchor.

It has its advantages and disavantages.
I've read that drums dont like it very well.

there are goods with the bads.

For actual brake pressure to apply to the rotors, hydroboost rocks.

You basically have to go rob a SD of the brake parts in the engine bay and swap them into your truck.
Master cylinder, some stuff from the power steering pump, yada yada.

I was going to do it at one time, then changed my mind.

Though, if the V-pump goes bad on our trucks, you have no brakes, but you can at least steer.
