Why does my the vortec 350s have more tq and hp than the 5.4s
I have a 97 350 vortec and my dad has a 02 f150 with the 5.4.On Saturday we went and had them dynoed to see who had more.My Vortec put down 324 rwtq and 252 rwhp,My dads 5.4 only put down 204 rwhp and 296 rwtq. What do you guys think of this and why is mine so much more? His mods include a hppIII,k&n intake, throttlebody spacer, flowmaster two chamber exhaust, and jba hedders. My 350 has borla exhaust, hedman hedders, throttlebody spacer and a volant intake. Can yall explain what you think the reason is?

if i'm not mistaken fords naturally run more torque than chevies, but chevies will run more horses. even if chevy has a moter with more torque, you don't reach the peak til a higher rpm. i think the ford 5.4 peak torque is around 2500 rpm or something along those lines.

Not only is it modified ( the 350) , sohc engines ( the 5.4) tend to rev alittle higher, then the old push rod engines before they float out . At the same time sohc engine's tend to have to rev alittle bit higher then the push rods to make the same torque as the push rod engine, either way both engines are impressive

Yeah, there is definitely a big advantage for you with those mods on that 350.
The last time I checked, the 300 cid I-6 that Ford was using until 1996 was making similar torque to the 350 cid GM V8. THAT tells me that the 350 really isn't all that impressive. I think stock vs. stock, the 5.4 would be a lot closer to you.
