sensors headaches in 2003 sport trac
Hi, I wonder if anyone has had these problems and might be able to give some advice. As I understand it, the sensors are connected on a "chain" network. Almost like the christmas light theory: one went out and they all went out-which one was the culprit?
Here's the diagnosed codes:
EEC test P1867 trans transfer case circuit failure. P0500 GEM MOD VSS circuit failure. B 1371 interior light ING.P0446 EVAP vent solinoid circuit. sensor or PCM SSM 16342
The computer was reprogrammed to try to rectify the slow fuel fill issue, but it didn't work, so they advised to replace the whole fuel tank. (It isn't pleasant slowly trying to fill up in -40 C wind!)
Another quote advised to replace: ignition wires (WR 6082), emission service-PCV EV 268, spray CXC 52B, VIC CXC 200
We paid $30,000 cdn less than 2 years ago (my inheritance), the truck had 123,000 km. The milage sits at 185,000 km and we have spent $6,000 in repairs so far.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
Sincerely, Roben

You need a better repair tech,
Slow fill is a mechanical defect, reprogramming will not fix that. Check the rubber fill tube going to the tank, either your fill tube or vent is kinked.
The sensors are not daisy chained, but they do have some common grounds. Needs to go on a computer to scan the sensors individualy.
Have you checked all the fuses??

Thanks for your quick reply!
Yes, I think I'd rather repair the vent hose first, before something as extreme as changing the whole tank. I have found a "semi" retired mechanic that will individually check the sensors.
My son checked the fuses when the brake lights were acting up (after changing the bulbs) and couldn't find any burnt out. (He is very helpful, but doesn't know much about mechanics, and has gone back home to Toronto now).
I seriously wish I would of gone with a small Ranger, but need to have the capacity to haul 2000 (+) lbs. I'm afraid of trading now. Both because I trusted the dealer I got this truck from and worry about finding an honorable dealer, and the money I will lose. Any advice?
Sincerely, Roben
