Side Trim Moulding

Of the three side trim moulding pieces for the left and right side, Ford has discontinued the one on the rear fender/quarter panel. The front two are hard to find. Here's a picture of them.

Where can replacement side mouldings similar to these for the right and left side be found? The auto body shops I've spoken to don't know or won't say.

So, with the ten or fifteen different side moulding configurations on the sides of the F-series and various bed lengths, there is nothing that is even similar? Extended cab trucks might have a similar (if not identical) length trim piece on the cab extension.

I usually take those pieces off of my trucks. However maybe you could swap the moldings off of a newer explorer/expedition or dare I say blazer? Nigh be surprised.

Factory installed mouldings are FoMoCo Dealer parts only, are not available from the aftermarket sector.

There were 5 different colors of these side mouldings (so, 5 different part numbers-per moulding location-per side), all have a "bright" insert.

White, Black, Medium Gray, Medium Mocha, Dark Red.

I ran all 10 part numbers for the R/L Quarter Panel Mouldings on the two parts locator sites. No FoMoCo Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

And, at some point, Ford replaced all 10 of these original mouldings with 2 others, that were "paint to match" / Quarter Panel: XC3Z-9829076-PTM -Right / XC3Z-9829077-PTM -Left. No one has these moulding either.

If I were in your situation, and needed a Q/P moulding, I would get a door moulding, then "cut it to fit" .. if any can be found NOS, that is. If black/brite isn't available, would you settle for another color?

If you are interested in going this route, lemme know, I'll search and see if anyone has any.

Note: The Q/P mouldings are 1992/96 Bronco only, but the fender and door mouldings were also used on 1992/96 F Series trucks.

So, there's prolly a better chance of finding some NOS.

Hi Parts Guru,
From the searching I can do, I've found that the fender and door moldings are still available and the rear/quarter panel is not. Since the F series fender and door ones are the same ones that are for Bronco, that must be part of why they're still available. It would be great if the manufacturer of them can get Ford's approval to continue to manufacture them for people or parts shops/stores to be able to get them, or at least available on a website or eBay.

If they can be cross referenced from other models that will fit, that would be great too. Are the PTM(paint to match) items black, gray or ??? What every you can find or suggest will be great. Also, what is the meaning of NOS? The junk yard ones may not be easy to remove from the the Bronco's they're on or allowed to be removed by the junk yard.

Some body shops talk about removing the existing ones with a heat gun fairly easily and others talk about the moulding being bent from the metal on the back...

What ever you can do will be great. Thanks, - Alan

I'm in the same boat as the original poster and am wondering if he or she found a solution. I've picked up several pieces from the junkyard and they don't cut well. The chrome insert delaminates if you cut the end off and also the end around the chrome isn't perfectly straight and it's just about impossible to get the same exact cut on the other piece to be able to put the end back on after cutting a section out of a longer molding and have it look right.

LMC truck does sell the molding in a 26' roll that you have to cut to fit for around $70 and they also sell a pre-cut molding set for about $140. I would order the pre-cut set but my hunch is that it's the same as the roll for twice as much and it won't look exactly the same as the original and for $70 extra I would be more than happy to cut it myself. However the chrome insert would run all the way through the molding and be surrounded by the colored sides just on the top and bottom vs on all sides like the original.

If anyone knows where I could find a good set of moldings for the front of the rear quarter please let me know. Any color is fine as long as the insert is good.

I found this thread a while ago and had the same question, but after about six months of searching I haven't found any good option for the factory molding. The Ford dealer I went to could only get the one piece in front of the door which is about 7 inches long and it was about $70.. plus they had to get it from like North Carolina or something and I live in Arizona. My truck was ahmmm.. (IS) an XL so it didn't come with the factory molding, but I bought it with aftermarket molding that I semi recently realized was aftermarket (after talking to the guy at the Ford dealer). However, I really like the look of the aftermarket molding and have been looking to order more.

Here is a picture I took a few months ago of my truck (before I repainted the hood and top so ignore the fading paint!!?!)

The molding in this picture however has completely lost its chrome (it was losing it when I first bought the truck about 7 years ago but still had a lot of the chrome on it) so I am going to be buying more soon.

I'm actually really glad you said LMC sells it because $70 for the roll is the best price I have been able to find yet on the same molding, and I want to replace mine so I can have the shiny chrome back. I just checked a local store where I bought the paint and am going to see if I can order the molding through them though so I can get it sooner. If they can happen to get it and its not too expensive, I'll take a picture of it and show you how the new molding looks on my truck so you can decide if you want to go that route instead of trying to get the factory molding.
