C4 or C6
i was thinking and i came across a potential problem with my truck. 1971 f100. it has a 351C and c4. the potential problem being that the engine will be pushing 350hp and i dont know if thwe c4 will stand up to the combanation of that and use in a truck. so i thought about swaping in a c6.
what is each stock tranny be good for as far as power handling capabilities, and if i had the c6 built what would it be good for?
also i heard that the c6 robs power and fuel economy more than the other trannys? is this so? and by how much? i cant imagine it would be more than a few %.

These guys used to give a little more info on what they did to the transmissions. Giving away too much info I'd guess, so now you get a generic description:
Street Rodder
You can search "c4 upgrades" or variations and find all kinds of info. I'd do it for you, but what's the fun in that?
As for the GV, not sure that bolts up to a C4 like it does a C6, so check before you set sail hoping to pick it up later.

You can build tough c4 transmission, if the c4 is in there, get it built to handle the power...here is a good site for performance parts for the c4 and c6: Ford C6 Performance Transmission Parts, C4 Transmission Parts

ditching both
Ive ditched both ideas at this point. I'm gonna swap in an AOD. and I'll build that up a little.
with the AOD i wont need the gear vendors, which cuts about 2,000 bucks off of the price
and ill be able to run a lower axle ratio for better power and still gain some fuel mileage.

You want an '88 to '93 box to start with. Many of the problems were worked out by then. The TCI and other trans sellers will tell you what they put in their beefed AOD transmissions.
Also, the AOD uses a throttle valve with linkage/cable from the throttle linkage to the trans. Adjustment is critical. The trans can be damaged in just a few miles without proper adjustment.
A beefed AOD is about $2200 from TCI iirc, if you want to go the high dollar route.....
