Hi Kim

Yes it is 'fixed'. What I did was park truck behind car instead of into the Sun. It was a heat problem which was prolly exacerbated by a new dash cover I'd installed the season before.
Anyway, truck is parked facing North instead of West. All fixed!
What problem are you experiencing?

I understand 'old & brittle'! What vehicle? The whole AC/Heat system is run by vacuum, so that's where to start. Hoses, vac motors and the function switch.

Since I first posted this thread, I'd thought the problem was solved. I was wrong. It started happening now and then but would always 'fix itself' somehow. Thought the heat was the cause of the problem..not.
Recently it's been getting hot again and sure enough, the problem started again. Went through all the checks I could but everything worked as it's supposed to. I"d fixed the door hinge problem 20+ years ago, so I finally decided it had to be the same issue.
First cloudy/cool morning, yesterday, I removed the heater core cover and was able to watch the door move....exactly as it is supposed to. I did notice a 'hitch' in the vacuum motor movement tho. I was able to get my hand into the door compartment and felt a kind of jagged 'something' at the connection point of the vacuum motor arm. Got a mirror and light to see what I was feeling and saw the pin that secures the motor arm to the door was ajar. The door connection has lower and upper pivots, the motor arm goes in between those pivots and pin secures the arm. The pin had worked itself out of the lower pivot! Pushed the pin into the lower pivot, lubed it some and voila! Fixed....again! (doesnttakemelong)

hmmm....not as 'fixed' as I thought. Starting to happen again. Last time I was able to get my hand into the area and 'feel' for the pivot pin. Able to push it down to overcome the problem but not a permanent repair. My 1-hand repair method worked but not neary as long as I hoped. Need 2-hand method...
Plenum area of concern assessable from dash top?
Anyone have a pic of the pivot pin area I'm dealing with? Is the pin plastic?
A better repair method?
Thanks for any help/advice about this pita problem.
Dave
