Speed Limiter???

I've found my first disappointment with my truck.....what is up with the speed limiter at 95??? I witnessed a Chevy HHR sideswipe and run on an interstate....well, being the good samaritan I am and thinking that I should have NO problem running him down with the 5.0. So I hit #77 and get MSP on the line, I was charging hard I ran it up and hit the limiter....how dissapointing!!! I did get close enough to get the tag and imagine he got what was coming to him....looks like it's gonna be time for a tune....

I'm surprised that MSP didn't give you a ticket for speeding. Reveune is down in the state, just ask the O'Money.Chris

I'm sure your efforts were appreciated but I would not defeat the speed limiter while under warranty if it were me. How many times do we need to go 95 mph?

LOL! Sounds like me!

Getting old is tough.

But anyway, I haven't pushed my Ecoboost to see how fast she will run but the 97 F150, 4.6 auto I used to own would top out at a little over 100 mph. I have slowed down some in my start of my golden years.

Speed limiters are odd little devices.

My family bought a 2004 F-150 4.6L Regular cab brand new back in 2004, and it would top out at 105mph. Then a few years later we traded the 2004 for a 2006 Extended cab with the same 4.6L V8 and it would top out right at 100mph.

Now I own a 2011 FX4 Supercab with the 5.0L and I took it to the governer the other day just to see what it topped at and it went to right at about 100mph ''like our 2006 F-150''.

And you say yours tops out at right around 95mph. Seems as though every truck is a little different. And like has already been said, how often do we really need to go at or past 95mph anyway...Other than when we really need to poop.

I take it you didn't see the humor in that either.

Then why doesn't the speedo just stop at 100? At this point in my life I couldn't imagine driving 95 in my truck though I regularly cruise at 80 if traffic allows.
Is this a federal mandate or a manufacturer installed device to save the drive train from us?

It's set at the lowest speed rated tire they put on the truck at the factory.

My '03 F-250 w/6.0 Diesel pulls the plug @ 95mph. Nothing gradual, either. I'll be accelerating like a Saturn rocket right up to 95, then OOPS!..... that's as good as it gets! But others said it right; how often do we get above 95mph? Be kinda cool to check out the actual "upper limit" once in a while, though.......

This... It's a safety measure taken by most auto manufacturers, typically electronic "limits" are set 5 to 10 mph below the speed rating on the lowest rated tire equipped on that model vehicle. Interesting tidbit of info, there are WAY more different tire sizes programmed into the comp in a single vehicle, for instance, I just put slightly larger tires on my 2010 XLT 4x2 and there where 7 different size calibrations in the computer for the Ford dealer to choose from.
