My buddy has a 92 Dodge with the Cummins 6bt and is willing to let me have it cheap. It's in good shape, well maintained. I was thinking of swaping into my Bronco. Anyone know what the major issues are (aside from the weight)? Thanks.

 

is his stadard ..or auto ..are you gonna use the stock tranny ..one of the guy's here has done it ..and I think he has a great time playing with it..I know he was here a while ago..how good are your fab skills ?? or are you gonna buy the kit to drop it in ??

 

Auto. I'm planning on using the adapter from Destroked on my e4od. My fab skills are ok, but getting better. I'm a Designer (Solidworks) and Machinist by trade so I'm used to working with metal, but in a much different way. Right now I'm building a custom rear bumper for my Bronco with a swing away tire carrier. If it comes out as good as the 3D model looks on my computer I might try to get this swap done

 

There is a guy around, American Thunder, who made this swap into a 1978, he isn't around much lately, but there was a very complete thread from him on his progress. That engine's wet weight is around 1000lbs (not my statement, just in case...), so keep in mind that you will need to upgrade the front, maybe to a 1 ton or even do a SAS. The swap itself isn't THAT difficult, since you probably have the fab skills and the tools required, if you get your hands on the right parts and are willing to avoid being cheap, you'll get great results, good luck! keep us posted!.

 

I've seen that guys truck and it's pretty cool. You're right, I think being cheap on this is the wrong idea. This is going to be a long term project...

 

I believe Kenpobuck has also swapped in a cummins into his early 80's Bronco. It may be a 12 bolt tho. Your major issue is going to be the OBD2 system. At a minimum you'll have to get a trans controller, as the Cummins is pretty much all mechanical if I remember right. Also, you'll need to nab a diesel fuel tank/lines from the F-series as the the fuel will eat away the lining in your gasoline tank.

Also, there's a guy over on fullsizebronco.com that has a 6bt in a '96 Bronco. His truck is mint, and the conversion looks factory.
