Bumper lift for a body lift.

If you raised the body off the frame, the bumper no longer sits in the correct place. With a 3" body lift, the bumper sits below the grill shell instead of over the bottom lip where it belongs. Follow along as we correct this problem.

Here are the stock frame horns with the body lift already installed....

First we scribe a cut line using a square so the cuts are perpendicular to the ground and we slide the bumper straight up.

Being careful to stay on the line, cut them suckers off.

Now measure 3" and slide the pieces you cut off up and then clamp them in place and check the measurement again.

Do both sides, then tack everything in place and set the bumper to make sure it looks level with the truck.

Even welded on both sides, this isn't very strong. You need a kicker in there to prevent twist. Here I have two pieces of 3/8"x2" flat stock cut and shaped to fill the void.

After welding it in place....

The whole reason for this kicker is to give it extra rigidity, so weld it everywhere you can, front and back. This sucker isn't going anywhere.

Did you get the measurements/scribe line off your new frame by chance? Looks good there Alan, nice job on the mod and thread.

No, I just picked a spot on the frame that looked good. I think I went 2 1/2 or 3" back.

You know I am thinking that's a great time to add a front receiver hitch/frame horn brace. Maybe out of a old rear hitch and tie it in with those kicker plates?

I told Bob I would be there all day with the yard sale. When he pulled up I was snoozing in one of the lounge chairs I had "on display". Those stacks woke me up. ...Darn noisy trucks!

dont get me wrong, it looks good, but if you hit something, your going to get alot of damage..... i do belive there are brackets that will relocate a front bumper on a body lift... i could be wrong..

You are right, but you have to notch the bottom of the bumper for it to look right.

If more strength is that important to you, you could always add a triangle brace on top of the frame rail. Then it would be stronger than factory with all the triangulation and bracing in the front.
