New to forum...EGR/Oil cooler replace, no start..help!!

Hey guys,

This is my first post so go easy on me lol. My 04 F250 6.0 started puffing out white smoke on start up for a few days and then one morning it was a constant stream like a fog machine. It smelled sweet and the research i did people were saying bad EGR and oil cooler and so did the techs at the local ford shop. So i ordered a 6.0 base solution for powerstroke(EGR delete kit, intake gaskets & oil cooler) from Cobbs diesel performance. I did it all myself and it took me about 23-24 hours in labor but i got it all together last night. I followed the intructions step by step and everything went pretty smooth. Now i got in the truck and turn the key to start it up and it didnt fire. I cranked it about 3 times for about 10-15 seconds and it never started. Do i need to prime the oil system and how? Is there anything else i need to do or reset? any advice would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!

You may need too crank more, to get oil in everything. Your low pressure pump will take care of the priming. Also sometimes when you replace the oil cooler, a little bit of dirt (lint, dust, oilfilter felt) get knocked in to the system, and trashes the IPR valve. The IPR valve controls oil pressure (it is like a waste gate for oil pressure). You may need too replace that as well.

Make sure you are using a Motorcraft or Racor, oil filter and OEM filter cap. You would not believe how many problems other "will fit" filters cause.

I would wait and see other's responses, before replacing. I am new to the 6.0 as well. If it doesnt start, check out the tech folder. If it does start run it, close too home, just in case. If it start's you are prob fine. Type "IPR" in the search box, and You will see what can happen too them though.

You definitely need more crank time. Make sure your batteries are WELL charged and don't crank too long at one time. You should see the oil "pressure gauge" needle start to move by now. It should crank shortly after that. As far as the IPR valve goes, that's one of those that I wouldn't replace unless it actually fails or gives problems. You'll need something to monitor ICP and IPR to determine that.

I would also double check all of your connections. Dot your I's cross your T's. The reason I dont want too tell you that's your prob for sure, is that valve is like $180 (I think), and I dont want you wasting money, when there are way's too check it out first. I dont know how to test though. Sorry I am not more help to ya.

Thiat fella can help more. Thank's Partsman.

If you left out the EGR valve then even if you did an EGR delete you should reinstall and plug it back in. You can have fan operation problems without it.

BTW--Welcome to FTE.

Take some time to read the 6.0 tech folder at the beginning of this forum for some GREAT diagnostic information.

I think you have to have at least 25 posts to be able to upload pic's and stuff, so stick around and join the crowd. Great bunch of guys here and LOTS of information that makes owning a 6.0 a pleasure.

well i got it started and the oil gauge came up to half so i guess thats good, the oil level is good but it sounds like theres an air leak on the drivers side of the motor around the degas bottle. oh and its still puffing white smoke but not as heavy as before...any suggestions?
