most common issues?

I'm new to the 6.4 page so I was just wondering what some of the most common problems truck owners have had with their super duties? I've already on the second day had a radiator go bad at 44000 miles, so I was just wondering if this is the most common area as of now for problems? I am learning about the dpf and such so what is the big gain of removing this and changing a tune on the pcm etc.. all input would be great. also I don't see a lot of users comment on the 6.4 page so must not have many problems???? like i've said I'm from the 7.3 forums so now i'm in the 6.4's

Welcome to the 6.4. It is a beast of a towing machine. But...does require some love and attention.

First I'd suggest reading the tech folder. Download the bible for the 6.4. Worthy reading on some of the component locations. You will need this info in doing your preventive maintance and checks.

there is a recent flash that is out there. 11B23 is the notice. Ensure the truck has had it. This flash is designed to more closely monitor your motors vitals.

One of the reasons for the radiator failures has been things like hyperextended thermostats and the routing of the coolant lines. Shocking the radiator with hot and cold cycles.

So get the flash if you have not had it.

Read the owners maintance schedule and follow the severe duty one.

Maintly 5K oil changes and 10K fuel filters and use only OEM filters for this motor.

Ford says you may run up to 5% bio but I stay away from it because actual percentage and quality is a concern for me. This fuel system is mighty fragile.

Drain the fuel/water separator monthly!

Weekly fluid level checks, visually looking over the motor things like that will help to ensure you are ready for that cross country tow.

Removing the DPF will void any remaining warranty you still have, and you said the truck has 44,000 miles so it is still under warranty.

Exactly what senix said! Excellent advice...

You're under warranty, and while removing the DPF and tuning will get you an **** load more power and better gas mileage, you're warranty is out the window...you can't have it both ways, so you need to decide which is more important. I drove my '10 for almost 10K miles stock and it was great, but now that it's tuned it's so much more fun to drive and I end up neglecting some of my other rides...

Good luck with your new ride and welcome, and if you decide to come over to the Dark Side (DPF-deleted) remember to get your cookie!
