5.4l triton to a 5.4 intech
has anyone on here swapped a triton from an expy with an intech from a navigator? I found an intech that would be perfect for my expy (I think). The current owner of this motor wants to put it in a mustang and I said it will never work, hoping he will sell it to me, but it has less mileage than my 5.4 triton and will provide the extra power that I have been looking for. I know I will need the complete wiring harness including the computer. Any input would be appreciated.

Yes we are! You asked a specific question, "has anyone on here swapped a triton from an expy with an intech from a navigator?" The reason no one answered you is because no one has done what you're asking, so they can not give you an answer.

The 5.4L Lincoln Navigator Intech 32v motor will definitely work. As others stated u wl need the 4r100 trans. Along with the ECM, wiring harness & key. It should be a plug & play swap. Verify the connectors on ur trans as they may hv change from yr to yr. The chip (transponder coded) key has to match the ECM. A locksmith or stealership can do it if u don't hv the original. Premium fuel is required for the intech 32v motor, unless u change out the pistons to lower the compression ratio.
Ps. I'm considering the same swap into an Excursion.

The problem with this is if the wiring harness for the body will be able to connect with the wiring harness and computer from the transmission and engine from a Navigator. There are differences between the two, even though they're similar. You need to do your homework studying the wiring diagrams. You also need to think about the transfer case, and how that will work with the computer and transmission. Not sure if Navi and Expy used the same transfer case.

The 32-valver has knock sensors.
So mine runs just fine on 87 octane.
I switch to 91 octane if I'm hauling heavy in summer heat.
Helps fuel mileage by a few tenths with a smidgeon more poop.
But the Intech has plenty for most situations on 87 octane.

The knock sensor works by retarding the timing. By using 87 octane you end up with less bang for your buck than if you ran 93 octane. Now if you can confirm there is no knock or timing retardation going on when running 87 then the 93 is a waste of money.

i have and it was kind of a pain... i had to get extenders for the fuel injectors, and swap from ev1; I also had to get a tune (this seems not to be working right at the moment) for the 24# INJECTORS. right now I'm running rich on bank 2 and can't seem to figure out why. but it was a straightforward swap.... i did a similar swap with my 96 mustangs using an avaitor engine... I was able to put the round long tube headers from an f-150 and mat them to the Navi motor. even though the ports are different, the exhaust gasket was able to mat up and all the bolt holes are the same! if you find a cheap motor take on the swap!
