I just read through the last 2-3 years worth of posts about ignition switches, didn't really find what I need, so if anyone knows of a more specific thread that can help me with this question, please post a link.

My ignition switch has come loose from the dash, here's a picture of the switch, which works just fine:



I understand there's some sort of spacer that keeps the spring in tension with the backside of the dash, here's the only piece that fell out that resembles a spacer:



I think my problem is that the locking piece that screws into the dash has broken off, at approximately 1:00 in this picture:



Sorry that picture's a little fuzzier.

I can't figure out how to get the switch reattached to the dash/bezel. I didn't want to force the bezel out, is there a trick to removing it? I know that's kind of a stoopid newb question, but I tend to break things when I rush in on them.

any help? and if there's a thread somewhere that has this covered, that would be great. thanks in advance,

Mid-Fifty sells theses parts. A ignition switch retainer #2905 $10.00 dollars and the ignition switch bezel 1003 $7.50 If you don't have a catalog go to Mid Fifty F-100 Parts - Home

 

If you need the ignition switch itself and the ignition switch key cylinder Autozone sells these items at a lower price. But they don,t carry the rest of the items like the retainer and bezel.

 

This is really helpful, especially about the switch retainer. Here's another question--can anyone tell which ignition switch I have from the photo? To me it looks like the 53-55 switch I've seen in other threads, which would make it Ford part FAA-11572-A. If that's what it is, then I think the switch retainer will work, Classic Haulers/Mid-Fifty lists the application as 53 through 56. https://classic-haulers.com/item.php?INV_ID=1574

On the other hand, if this switch is the original '48 ignition switch, that would make it Ford part # 6A-11572-B. Not sure the retainer will work if this is the case?

I'm curious if anyone can steer me to pictures of the '48-50 ignition switch as well as the '53-55 switch for comparison's sake? (And maybe even the '51-52 switch if there's a photo out there somewhere, which I understand would be part #OL-11572-A.) This is partly for my own education on what I have here.

I can't tell you for sure what you do have, but I can tell you it's not the 51-52 part. I have one in my hand, (but can't post a pic tonight) and it's different from what you show. Similar, but definitely different.
