Help with sway bar/bushings..

I've started noticing a clunk coming from the front of the truck when the suspension compresses or rebounds over bumps in the road. I got to looking around under the truck today and found the sway bar bushings to look a bit rough and notice if I pull on the sway bar there's some play in it without much effort. I know the best way to tell would be to remove the sway bar and go for a drive but I'm short on time at the moment. I'm also guessing play in the sway bar shouldn't be there. Should I just go ahead and replace the bushings and do you think that should take care of it? Just looking for some help. I replaced ball joints about 3k miles ago also if that helps.

Sounds like its time to replace the bushings. Mine were rattling every time I hit even the smallest of bumps. With a press, its extremely easy to do. I followed the article in the post above, and had mine done in under an hour. I went with Energy Suspension's bushings, and havent heard a peep from my front end since I replaced them.

What truck you have?

I got the Energy Suspension bushings off ebay for $47 shipped which is the best price I've found. (For 99'-04' SDs) Energy Suspension Sway Bar-1 1/4" F-Series 99-04 | eBay

As others said with a press (20+ Ton) the job doesn't take long and is simple. Make sure you lube the bushings with the supplied grease. Another option is to buy new end links with new bushings installed and 2 new center bushings from a place like Rock Auto. The Energy suspension route is the cheapest.

sway bar bushings

If you dont have a press a piece of threaded rod and some nuts and washers will work to drive the bushings in.

The press is not needed to get the energy suspension bushings in, its to get the old factory bushings out.
