So, I thought I had the amazing shrinking truck. It seemed to me my truck was sitting lower in the front(noticed this over the past three months). Well i looked at the front coil springs and thought everything looked OK. Well the other day I gave a real close inspection and found the passenger coil broken at the bottom of the spring. Was surprised the truck was not leaning in that direction. Ordered new Moog springs, opted for the heavy duty ones they offered. When replacing them last night, low and behold found the driver side also broken!! Guess that explained the lack of lean. So, when you guys look at your springs give it a 360* look, can be a easy miss, I missed it for at least 3 months and had looked at them a half dozen times. Truck is sitting back up wear she belongs now. I do have a 2" auto spring added in, not sure if that contributed to the spring failure. Looks like they broke around 75000 mile mark. On a side note the heavy duty spring gives a even better ride to my surprise !! Check those springs

Sorry, did not snap any pics. They both broke almost the same spot about 4" out from the bottom spring wined. Saw some pics on this on a earlier post.... seems like they all break about the same spot. Because they break so low on the spring its hard to notice......

To add another chip to the pile.... I found one broken on the driver's side of my '04 4x4 last week. Like xjcamaro89's it also failed at the bottom. The truck has about 130,000 miles on it, but by the rust on the fracture face, the break is at least a few months old. This truck is my good vehicle and except for a bird hunting trip once a year and some trailer hauling it sees only road (mostly highway) miles. The truck has had an ongoing issue with front end shimmy long before the broken spring. I wonder if the vibration contributed to the failure?



I was looking at the MOOG heavy duty springs also. Any recommendations of other brands? Did the HD springs change ride height noticeably?
