My project....
so this was my Granddads truck....ive been tinkering with it. heres a pic of it with my Hoe
so did a little work to my 78 this week got some new kicks and a new muffler and tailpipe just went back with a single exhaust setup with a stock style quiet muffler. the old muffler wasnt loud there just wasnt anywhere to weld a new tailpipe on it....next up is gonna be getting a sand blaster out and taking care of all the surface rust on it :icon_dance-twist:
fixed my rattling door problem....the plastic bushings were AWOL so i bought a set of them...im gonna have the trim the longer ones so they look legit but the short ones work for now

nice, I have a soft spot for stock 2 wheel drive longbed Fords, they were the trucks the country folks drove when I was a kid and the ones I grew up with. The 4x4s all dolled up are great too but theres just something about ones like yours.........

DONT use a sand blaster!!!!!! Find some one with a soda blast set up you will distort all of that straight sheet metal with heat and sand.
For now brush/spray on some OSPHO. It will stop and kill the rust but warning it will bleech paint.
And I gotta add your HOE looks better than your truck does for now but once you start playing with that truck you wont put your hands on that skinny thing again and you'll be able to pick up a quality HOE when that truck is tightened up.

the pitting is pretty bad so sand is the way i need to go....im probably gonna just replace the bed entirely and the hood so the only thing im really gonna blast is the roof and door jambs etc....and ill just wipe the entire roof with a skim coat of filler....you can use sand with success as long as you dont stay in one place for too long

autozone in the "Help" section it came with 4 bushings 2 for front doors and 2 for rear....i used the rear bushings because the fronts were too tall i gotta get the razor knife out and trim them slightly..... i think they were 3.99

Welcome to FTE. Since you are aware of the potential hazards of sandblasting I thought I would share with you process I picked up from a fellow FTE member. I think you will find this especially useful on the roof. I have warped the roof on a beautiful cab in the past, even being very careful with the blaster. I have since been using this process and it works amazingly.
Here is the best way to do it without sandblasting. This process was approved by the PPG lab for our Deltron warranty program, we have been using this process for surface rust about 5 yrs and never had anything less than great adhesion since.
1. Apply DX579 Metal cleaner mixed 1:2 with water, scrub with abrasive pad or wire brush. Keep reapplying and rinsing until metal no longer has rust color, it will turn gray.
2.Apply DX520 Metal Conditioner and scrub with abrasive pad then rinse.
Repeat 1-2 more times. (you will be amazed how great the surface looks at this point)
3. Apply Epoxy sealer for adhesion (DPLF is a great product)
4. Apply a good quality Polyester primer, 2 heavy coats are usually plenty, sand with 220 grit. (this will fill 90% of the pits)
5. Apply 2 coats of a good quality Urethane primer and sand with 400 grit.
Now you should have a perfect base to paint over.
I cut and paste this out of this thread if you want to read more.
