My new work truck

Nevermind...a quick internet search and I found it. Purge Solenoid Valve. I wonder if mine still works since it's been hanging out with the exhaust manifold...not that it's doing any good being disconnected like that. So if this is working the way it should, it opens up to allow fuel vapor from the charcoal canister to enter the engine. If it's not working, the vapors just stay in the canister. Since both hoses are broke, the vapor from the canister is just venting under my hood and there is an open line into my engine! Neither of these sounds particularly safe. So since my goal is cleaning up the engine bay...should I remove the charcoal canister and then filter the line coming from the tank and also plug the line that goes into the engine?

first pic in post # 30 is vacuum also. what it is for i don't know though
second pic, the top "T" is vacuum lines. look like one is broke.
the coffee can looking thing is the charcoal canister for fuel tank.
thing on top of it is the muffler for the smog pump
thing on top back of the engine is part of the smog pump system.
