1970 Ford 2wd 302 transmission C6 to AOD swap

I have a 1970 Ford F100 2wd 302 and I'm switching out my transmission from a C6 to an AOD. I need to know if this transmission will work... Rebuilt Ford AOD Mustang Thunderbird Transmission It had a 10-1/4" tailhousing on it.

What all do I need to know to be able to get the correct transmission for my truck? I have some info but apparently not all. I don't want to waste any money so I'd like some accurate assistance on this.

There are two different lengths of tailhousings. The longer of the 2 was for truck applications but I'm not sure what the difference really is in the two. Either will bolt up to your 302 just fine.

I did this swap in my '71. Pretty easy over all. The only "fabrication" you will have to do is to scoot the tranny crossmember back an inch or so. Be sure and get your stuff straight on the TV cable installation and calibration. I used Lokars, but it retrospect think I might look into adapting factory Ford cable.

You may need to consider your rear gears in the swap as well. I exchanged my 3.50 for 4.10 gears and they were a blast, and I got increased mileage (14 MPG) out of it as well. I'm trying 3.70 gears now but don't have a feel for mileage yet.

Good luck in your swap!

Ford did not offer the C6 w/a 302 until 1978 in F100's & F150's. If the trans is the original, it's a C4 and has 11 trans pan bolt holes.

Well, that changes things. This transmission is really giving me problems. If someone could just give me step by step what to do or a website it would make this thing much easier. So what is the difference in a C4 appose to a C6 regarding an AOD swap?

The only thing it could affect is the location of the transmission crossmember. But I think even that is the same. If you want the OD, go for it. It's not a hard swap at all.

Ok, they offered a small block C6, but NOT in your truck. Nothing changes about installing the AOD no matter what you take out.

Not sure how much clearer a picture can be drawn for the OP on this swap. This is a pretty easy swap as these things go imo....
