york style A/C compressor on 300?

This might be a dumb question, but was the 300 ever available with air conditioning? I'm thinking about putting on board air on my 86 f150, and was wondering if there was a factory bracket to mount the york compressor. The compressor i got is off an early seventies v8 truck, and i feel it would be much easier to get a factory bracket than fabricating one myself. Thanks!i

I was thinking of it myself, but actually running AC. Yes, the 300s did have it. Not too sure on if they even used a York. I'd venture to say a bracket from a late 70s 300 should be the closest to Yorkability.
Is your username based off an awesome rock band?

You know it! alice in chains is one band i can't seem to get tired of, so this is my little tribute. Thanks for the info, guess i'll have to hit the salvage yards. I wanted to know before i went so i'm not searching every single truck with a 300 for no reason.

My '86 e250, 4.9 has air but it was built w/o air. The only non-factory looking thing is a toggle switch for the fan. Anyway, the compressor is a York and when I went to replace it I found out it was made for a Freightliner! All the mounts look to be factory, Ford.

My '85 E150 had this style compressor for factory air:

NAPA also shows the York piston type compressor for the '85 E150, saying it was for dealer installed air:

FoMoCo built two (at least) styles of a/c compressor mounts for the 80-86. One uses a welded-up bracket, the other is made of cast iron. Naturally,They both use a different a/c pump, so you need to source the right bracket for the pump you already have.

Mine is an '86 e250 and it has a Borg-Warner, York style. The mount is cast aluminum and there is another belt tension peice that is also cast aluminum.

Thanks all for the input, and especially that link! if at all possible, i'll take the compressor from the donor vehicle also, just to be safe even if it is the same as the one ive already got, but i doubt the dealer installed air was very common. What do you think is the probability of a dealer or parts house having the dealer install kit? or just the brackets?

Of course nothing just bolts up! what kind of project would be complete without insane cursing at something seemingly easy?

I came across a York set up today on a 1984 Ford Truck. I have never seen one. I didn't know it existed. Pretty cool set up. I was wondering if this was a factory install or a dealer install type of deal. Here's a pic:

When you say on-board air, I assume you mean an on-board air compressor? If so, yes, the York style should work OK (separate lubrication for the compressor and refrigerant.) If you are talking air CONDITIONING that is a different matter - the parasitic drag from a York is really high and I'd recommend converting to a Sanden-style compressor. You almost can't even feel it kick on.

There are some good posts on some of the Jeep forums about adding a York compressor for on-board air; generally for the guys who want to really run their tires soft off-road and pump them back up when they go back on the pavement.

From what I have seen posted from trying to get compressor brackets for my 300 six, IIRC some where between 82/83 they (factory) switched from York to the Sanden, could of been 81/82?
So your 84 seams a little late for the York compressor.

Now from what I have also seen posted if factory or dealer AC I don't think you can tell by the dash vents, factory has vents in dash dealer did not but not always true.
Dealer could be mounted under the main dash.

One thing that was said is the controls. Factory is all in the dash with the normal controls, Dealer the AC was mounted somewhere else.
