My vin last 6 are 454539. Is this a 49 or a 50?

Assuming the first two numbers are 97 or 98, it's probably a '50. I seem to recall our 49-50 historians mentioning the changeover occured near the 300,000 mark. Do you have numbers stamped on your firewall? In that string should be a date code. See if you can find that. Post any numbers you find here.

vin 48-50

Hi there!
Thanks for your reply.
the rest of the vin is 98RC454539.
The same # appears on in both places on the truck.
Regards,

Mark

Which both places are you talking about? Your vin should be stamped on the right side frame rail, on a tag riveted to the firewall, and on a tag located on the inside of the glove box door. The numbers I was referring to are actually stamped into the sheet metal of the upper center of the firewall itself, near the cowl seam, not on a tag.

Unless it was built in Norfolk, Va, in which case it will be all the way over on the driver's side.

the build code has been reported anywhere on the firewall - left, right, above the seam and below it. some don't have a stamping at all.

Gotta love Ford's consistency..... grin
